Peugeot 308 THP 175 GT - 1.6 Turbo
Peugeot have now topped their 308 range with the new Peugeot 308 THP 175 GT which has a 1.6 litre, turbocharged engine producing a respectable 175 bhp. Now compare that with a 20 year old 1.6 litre Ford Escort RS Turbo running at 132 bhp, the technology of today is certainly showing its worth, without even mentioning fuel efficiency.
Performance
Top speed of the new 308 GT tops out at 140mph with 0-60mph in 8.3 seconds from the six-speed manual gearbox. Running on the 18 inch alloy wheels, the turbocharged engine is said to run smooth and responsive delivering 195lb ft from 1600 - 4500rpm on ‘over-boost’ turbo setting.
Fuel Efficiency
The 1.6 litre turbo engine offers a reasonable 37.1 mpg with CO² emissions at 180g/km, putting it in the car road tax band ‘E’ for £170 / yr.
Price
The retail price of the 308 THP 175 GT is yet to be confirmed however, with the price of the 308 THP 150 GT at £18,195, we could see the 175 for a little under £19,000 maybe.
