DVLA new car/vehicle registration number format. System introduced on September 2001.

DVLA new car/vehicle registration number format. System introduced on September 2001.

In September 2001, the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) changed the format to not only establish the year of the vehicle, but to also display the area in which it was originally registered.

The biggest change with the new vehicle registrations was to go from yearly issues to every six months. The new system would then see two new vehicle registration/age identifiers each year.

In 1999, prior to the introduction of the new system, the DVLA were forced to run the remaining six registration numbers (S, T, V, W, X and Y) over a three year period with a new registration every six months. This was to use the up the remaining letters of the alphabet to start the new system on the first letter - “A” - for those who don’t know:).

Diesel Car Sales Expected To Out Sell Petrol By 2011

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008 |

Not too long ago, car buyers were often put off from buying a diesel motor on the grounds that they are dirty, slow, noisy and smelly. In recent years, this conception has changed with many new diesel powered cars making use of turbo’s and in general have been much quieter, cleaner and with better performance.

Dutch Invent Robotic Petrol Pump

Friday, February 15th, 2008 |

Dutch inventors have designed a £55,000 car fuel filling robot which fills your petrol tank without having to leave the car.

The new “TankPitStop” will only work on cars where the fuel filler cap is not locked. On entering the filling station, the robot will check your vehicle against a database of fuel cap designs and program the parameters to fit your vehicle.

The robot will work similar to how a human would fill your vehicle by carefully unscrewing the fuel filler cap and inserting the fuel hose nozzle before filling.

The inventor of the device, Nico van Staveren said that he got the idea from visiting a dairy farm yard: “I was on a farm and I saw a robotic arm milking a cow. If a robot can do that then why can’t it fill a car tank, I thought”. He added: “Drivers needn’t get dirty hands or smell of petrol again”.

Van Staveren expects to be rolling out the design in a few Dutch service stations throughout the year.

Finishing touches for new forum

Monday, January 28th, 2008 |

We have almost complete our new forum which we expect to have live later today. Obviously the forum will be a bit quiet for the first few weeks until we get a few members together but we hope this will only be short term. The forums will be closely monitored by Autowirez staff but this does not mean we will be having strict rules like some forums which members are scared to breathe.

We want to make the new forums and enjoyable place for our visitors so we would welcome any comments or suggestions you may have by email - admin@autowirez.co.uk

We hope you all find the new forums interesting once we get moving with a good few members.
